About Rhoda

Master Teacher:
Rhoda was born in the Beijing in 1965. She studied Music and Chinese Literature at China Normal University, specialising in cello. She later trained to become an Mandarin and Chinese Culture teacher and began her teaching career in 1986.  Rhoda moved to Hong Kong in 1986.

With over 28 year’s experience, Rhoda is both an experienced Mandarin and Culture Teacher and a best immersion and culture trip’s Leader.  She has depth of subject knowledge of all forms of Mandarin, supported with a good knowledge of contextual and critical studies.

Rhoda specialises in teaching and running Mandarin  and Culture from ages 4 – 18yrs. As Head of Department for over 3 years and Mandarin immersion program manager.  Rhoda had to implement Literature and Culture curriculums relevant to ages middle school through to high school and students moving onto University courses, as well as examination boards. Rhoda understands the requirements and demands of AP Chinese, SAT Chinese, GCSE Chinese, HSK Standard Chinese and IB Chinese examination criteria. She works with the students in a manner where their work is developed sequentially, showing transition and language skills, concepts and techniques.

Rhoda runs courses that cover a wide variety of Mandarin levels, AP Chinese Preparation,  SAT Chinese Preparation, IB Chinese Support, HSK Standard Chinese and   Business Mandarin, including four skills- Speaking , Listening , Reading  and Writing.

Her experience will help not only develop a student’s confidence and competence, but will also enrich that student’s imagination, creativity, skills and techniques, alongside their critical and academic thinking.

Rhoda can help support, guide and teach students who are studying IB Chinese (MYP and IBDP), GCSE Chinese, A-level Chinese, SAT Chinese, AP Chinese or HSK. Also with Business Mandarin. The work that the students produce under her guidance can be specific to their examination.

This is also a great option for students who are taking a year out, but are later going on to study Mandarin at university or foundation level. It is essential that in their time out these students continue to build on their language skills and culture experts.

Rhoda has always ensured that her students’ standards show that the criteria have been fully meet.
